Let me first state that I am NOT a Huckabee for President supporter. I think it is horrible that someone would wear their faith on their sleeve, it's not what he believes in, it's the preechiness of his speeches. I am looking for someone that is going to be fiscally conservative with the economy and help save the dollar, and that's why I'm backing Ron Paul. We need someone that knows economics in office because there will be a lot of people kicked out into the streets because of the immenant hyper-inflation this nation is heading for.
That being said, I don't mind the fact Huckabee is strong in his faith, heck, Ron Paul is very strong in faith too. The difference between the two is Ron Paul holds his religion close to his heart and doesn't think it should matter in the people's choice. One thing I notice is that Paul doesn't pander. He's a straight talker, and isn't afraid to have people 'boo' him, another reason why I admire that man.
So why is there even the notion of the Republican version of the odd couple?
Because Huckabee and Paul do share a lot in common, but the ways of getting the message out is different. Huckabee is a good talker, very smooth. I have to admit, Huckabee could probably sell snow to an Eskimo. Paul is direct and hits people with the truth like a ton of bricks.
I've noticed early on in the debates that Huck would look admirably at Paul, and didn't necessarily totally disagree with him even in the 'honor' exchange. At this time Huck was shooting for McCain's VP spot. Listen to Huck, he calls going to Iraq a mistake. Paul agrees it was a mistake, but it needs to be corrected. Huck talks of honor, he says honor a lot. But this actually helps Paul...was this done on purpose?
In the last debate they both experienced CNN's censorship. Of course Paul had it worse than Huck, but I think Paul handled it better. If you watch the last debate you see both Huck and Paul chatting it up with each other. At the end it looks like Paul and Huck congradulate each other and laugh at the situation a little. Paul walks off the stage afterwards immediately, knowing CNN wouldn't cover him one bit for the post-debate.
So, that being said, there is a strong possibility that if this heads to convention, if Huckabee is still in it, there could be a Paul/Huck ticket in the making.
It would round up both ends of the Republican spectrum, fiscal and social conservative. It would combine two fairly large grassroots campaigns. It would explain why Huck was mimicking Paul's rhetoric. It would explain a lot really.
Paul/Huck - The pro-life, anti-IRS, pro-States rights, anti-Iraq war, ticket...
is it possible? It would balance out very well if this were the case.
